MAKESHIFT WAS A ONE-YEAR PILOT PROJECT LOCATED IN DOWNTOWN KALAMAZOO
November 2015 - November 2016

We provided two free months of 24-hour studio access, followed by a one-month solo exhibition for six resident artists, as well as various non-resident artists. Makeshift sought conceptually-driven artists working in a diverse range of media who wanted to explore, challenge, and expand on their current art making practices. We also worked to provide a glimpse into the studio as an evolving and iterative space for the multiple functions of artistic practice, including the presentation of new work, research, dialogue, ideation, and community engagement. We at Makeshift would like to thank our artists, sponsors, friends, family, and most importantly, Kalamazoo, for all of the support!
